Sometimes you need a plumber at your house. Sometimes you just need five minutes of good advice from someone who knows plumbing. Homeowners throughout Citrus County can call Modern Plumbing and speak with a knowledgeable plumbing professional for free over the phone. No consultation charge. No obligation to schedule an appointment. No salesperson trying to turn every question into a service call. Call us at (352) 726-5601 and tell us what is happening. We may be able to help you figure out your next step without ever sending a truck to your home.
The short version
Modern Plumbing offers Citrus County homeowners three things that cost nothing:
Speak to a plumber for freePlumbing problems can be confusing. Is that water on the floor coming from the toilet or the shower? Is the water heater leaking, or is the temperature and pressure relief valve simply discharging? Is one clogged toilet a toilet problem, or is your whole sewer line starting to back up? Does the sound of running water mean you might have a slab leak? Before assuming the worst, call us. We can often help you understand what you are seeing, what you should check, and whether the problem actually needs professional service. We work with water heaters, slab leaks, drain stoppages, toilets, faucets and fixtures, repipes, and bathroom plumbing across Citrus County every week. What we might ask you over the phoneA few simple questions can tell an experienced plumber a great deal. Depending on the problem, we may ask:
Send us a pictureOne of the easiest ways for us to help is to see what you are looking at. Call us first and ask whether sending a picture would help. Useful photos include your toilet or tank components, faucet, shower or tub valve, water heater and its model label, garbage disposal, outdoor faucet or hose bib, a shutoff valve, a leaking pipe, a water stain, a drain, a backflow preventer, or water filtration equipment. Pictures help us identify brands, fixture styles, visible failures, and replacement parts before we ever arrive. Sometimes we can tell you the likely problem. Sometimes we can tell you what part you need. Sometimes we can tell you the problem really does need a plumber. And sometimes we can help you skip the service call altogether. That is okay with us. We would rather give someone good advice today and earn their trust for the next problem than push them into buying something they do not need. Borrow a toilet auger or plunger from us for freeThis is one we especially want Citrus County homeowners to know about. Modern Plumbing loans homeowners basic drain-clearing tools at no cost, with a $50 fully refundable equipment deposit. Bring the tool back and you get your deposit back. Your child flushed a toy down the toilet? Keys disappeared into the bowl? Someone used a little too much toilet paper? Clogged toilet and a tight month? Call us.
The homeowner tool loan program
Availability varies, so call (352) 726-5601 before driving over. Pick up at 4196 S. Pleasant Grove Rd, Inverness, FL 34452, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Did your child flush something down the toilet? It happens more often than people think. Common culprits include small toys and toy cars, keys, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, wipes, paper towels, feminine products, excessive toilet paper, small bottles or caps, and cleaning product containers. If you suspect something went down, tell us what you think it was before you start working on it. The right approach is different for excessive toilet paper than it is for a solid object lodged in the trapway. If borrowing an auger makes sense, we will say so. If we think you risk cracking the toilet or pushing the object further into the line, we will tell you that too. The goal is not to sell you a service call. The goal is to give you good advice. Why would a plumbing company help people fix things themselves?Because we want to be your plumber for years, not for one invoice. A long-term local business runs on relationships and reputation. If we can save you money by answering a question, we will. If you can safely handle something yourself, we are happy to point you in the right direction. If you need professional service, we will explain what we believe needs to be done and why. That thinking runs through everything we do. You can read more about it in our approach and in the Modern difference. Our plumbers are not paid sales commissionsModern Plumbing plumbers do not receive sales commissions for convincing you to buy more. If a plumber's income depends on the size of your invoice, you might reasonably wonder whether every recommendation is necessary. We would rather remove that question from the relationship entirely. We do not want our plumbers walking into your home asking how much they can sell. We want them asking how they can help. We publish our pricingTransparency should start before a plumber arrives. Our standard rate is a $55 service call plus $95 per hour for labor, with a one-hour minimum and fifteen-minute increments after that. Free estimates are available on larger projects. It is all posted on our service rates page, along with current discounts for seniors, veterans, and online booking. Need an electrician, AC company, or realtor? Ask usHere is another one people do not expect from their plumber. Call us when you need a different local service company. We have been working in Citrus County since 1978 and we have met a lot of contractors, tradespeople, and business owners along the way. We also know how frustrating it is to find someone who answers the phone, shows up, communicates, charges fairly, does quality work, and stands behind it. If you need an electrician, an air conditioning contractor, a tile installer, a general contractor, a realtor, a septic company, a restoration company, or a handyman, ask us. If we know someone we have confidence in, we are glad to point you their way. Helping our customers should not stop at the edge of the plumbing trade. Free plumbing information before you even callWe have built a growing library of plumbing information on this site, including a general plumbing FAQ, a dedicated water heater FAQ, a guide to choosing a water heater, and pages on mobile home plumbing and general repairs and installations. More goes up regularly on The Modern Plumber blog. Read first. Call with questions. Send a picture. Borrow a tool if it makes sense. Schedule a plumber if you need one. When should you call a professional plumber?Free advice does not mean every plumbing problem should become a weekend project. Some situations really do call for a licensed plumber, including:
If you are not sure which category your problem falls into, that is exactly why we offer this. Call and ask. Frequently asked questions about our free plumbing advice
Can I call Modern Plumbing and ask a plumber a question for free?
Yes. Citrus County homeowners can call Modern Plumbing at (352) 726-5601 with plumbing questions at no charge. We will do our best to help you understand and troubleshoot the problem over the phone when that is practical.
Do I have to schedule a service call after speaking with you?
No. Asking for advice does not obligate you to schedule plumbing service.
Can I send Modern Plumbing pictures of my plumbing problem?
Yes. Call us first, then send photos of the toilet, faucet, water heater, shower valve, pipe, leak, or other equipment. Pictures often help us understand the situation faster than a description can.
Can I borrow a toilet auger from Modern Plumbing?
Yes, subject to availability. Modern Plumbing loans homeowners a toilet auger, sink auger, or plunger at no cost with a $50 fully refundable equipment deposit. Call (352) 726-5601 before coming to our Inverness office so we can confirm the tool you need is on the shelf.
Can a plumber diagnose a slab leak over the phone?
Some symptoms can be discussed over the phone, but confirming the location and cause of a slab leak takes professional diagnosis. We can help you understand what signs to look for and what your next step should be. Our slab leak warning signs page covers the symptoms in detail.
Can you help me figure out whether I have a sewer stoppage?
We can ask which fixtures are affected, when the problem happens, and whether your home is on sewer or septic. Those answers help narrow down the type of problem, though some stoppages need an onsite inspection or drain cleaning to sort out.
What if I cannot afford a plumber right now?
Call us anyway and tell us what is happening. If there is something reasonable and safe you can check yourself, we will try to help. If a borrowed plunger or auger might solve it, ask about our tool loan program. We cannot promise every problem can be handled without professional service, but we can help you understand your options.
Does Modern Plumbing pay its plumbers commissions?
No. Our plumbers are not paid sales commissions to increase the size of your bill. Their job is to diagnose the problem, explain your options, and complete the work you authorize.
Where is Modern Plumbing located and what are your hours?
We are at 4196 S. Pleasant Grove Rd, Inverness, FL 34452. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and online scheduling is open 24 hours a day.
Does Modern Plumbing serve all of Citrus County?
We serve Inverness, Lecanto, Crystal River, Citrus Springs, Hernando, Floral City, Homosassa, Beverly Hills, and surrounding communities. A different kind of plumbing companyWe know that telling people how to fix a problem themselves might cost us an occasional service call. We are okay with that. Modern Plumbing has been part of Citrus County since 1978, and we would like to keep at it for another few generations. That means doing more than fixing pipes. It means answering questions. It means helping people who cannot afford a repair today. It means loaning somebody an auger when their kid flushes a toy down the toilet. It means recommending another local business when the problem is outside our trade. And when you really do need a plumber, we hope you remember the company that was willing to help before there was ever an invoice.
