Backflow Test and Certification
Protect the public water supply and meet local testing requirements with professional backflow preventer testing and certification from Modern Plumbing. A backflow prevention assembly helps stop contaminated or non-potable water from flowing backward into a home, business, irrigation system, or public drinking water supply.
Many commercial properties, irrigation systems, fire protection systems, multifamily buildings, and certain residential properties are required to have their backflow prevention device tested periodically by a certified backflow tester. Modern Plumbing provides backflow testing, inspection, certification, and test-report submission services throughout Inverness and Citrus County, Florida.
Backflow Devices We Test
• Reduced Pressure Zone assemblies, also called RPZ or RP devices
• Double Check Valve Assemblies, also called DCVA or DC devices
• Pressure Vacuum Breakers, also called PVB devices
• Irrigation backflow prevention assemblies
• Commercial and residential backflow preventers
• Backflow devices serving potable water, irrigation, and approved specialty systems
What Is Included
This service may include identifying the backflow prevention assembly, visually inspecting the device, checking shutoff valves and test ports, testing the internal check valves and relief valve, recording the test results, applying certification information when required, and completing the appropriate backflow test report.
When permitted by the applicable utility or water authority, Modern Plumbing may submit the completed certification paperwork on the customer’s behalf. Customers should provide any testing notice, account number, device information, or utility paperwork received before the appointment.
Common Reasons to Schedule a Backflow Test
• Annual backflow certification is due
• A water utility has issued a testing notice
• The property is being sold, leased, or inspected
• A new backflow preventer was installed
• A backflow device was repaired or relocated
• Water service has been restored or modified
• The device has not been tested recently
• Certification records cannot be located
Why Backflow Testing Matters
A properly functioning backflow preventer helps protect drinking water from contamination caused by changes in water pressure. Testing confirms whether the device’s internal check valves, relief valve, shutoff valves, and other components are operating within the required performance standards.
Regular testing can also identify worn rubber parts, leaking shutoff valves, damaged test cocks, corrosion, debris, or internal failures before the device stops working completely.
Important Service Information
The listed price applies to testing one accessible backflow prevention assembly under normal conditions. The device must have working test ports and functional shutoff valves so the required test can be completed safely.
Additional charges may apply for multiple devices, difficult access, buried or obstructed assemblies, after-hours appointments, missing identification, damaged test ports, leaking shutoff valves, frozen or seized components, or additional administrative requirements.
The testing fee covers the inspection and certification process and does not guarantee that the backflow prevention assembly will pass. If the device fails, Modern Plumbing will explain the test results and provide repair or replacement recommendations. Repairs, replacement parts, excavation, permits, utility fees, retesting after repairs, and replacement of the complete backflow assembly are not included unless specifically stated in the selected service or written estimate.
Water service may need to be temporarily interrupted during the testing process. The customer is responsible for notifying occupants, tenants, employees, or equipment operators who may be affected by the temporary interruption.
Testing and certification requirements vary by water provider, property type, and backflow assembly. Customers should confirm the applicable testing deadline and submission requirements shown on their utility notice.
Professional backflow testing and certification are available in Inverness, Lecanto, Hernando, Beverly Hills, Crystal River, Homosassa, Floral City, Sugarmill Woods, and surrounding Citrus County communities.
